Dr. Abdu’s specialty is the study and treatment of spine-related conditions. He practices spine surgery for disorders as disc herniation, spinal stenosis and spondylolisthesis. His areas of research interests include the association of burden of illness and the impact illness has on patient reported outcomes.
“Spine patients can present as extremely complex patients,” Dr. Abdu said, “Our work has focused on measuring outcomes from the patients’ perspective, and aiming to determine who will or will not benefit from surgery on the spine. This requires and is made possible by the use of wireless electronic methods of performing patient-health surveys, using standardized health instruments.”
Dr. Abdu earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He completed his internship and orthopedic training at DHMC in 1990. His additional training includes a spine surgery fellowship at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
