Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Mark Flood of Laser Spine Institute

Mark Flood, DO, is an orthopedic spine surgeon and chief of surgical innovation at Tampa, Fla.-based Laser Spine Institute. He is a member of the North American Spine Society, American Osteopathic Association and Arizona Orthopedic Society. He joined Laser Spine Institute in 2008, before which he served as director and founding member of the Center for Spinal Disorders and Pediatric Orthopedics in Mesa, Ariz.

Dr. Flood is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery and provides a wide-range of services from minimally invasive spine surgery to revision and reconstructive surgery of the spine. His clinical interests also include degenerative spine, spinal tumors and pediatric orthopedic surgery with a focus on spinal deformity and trauma. He has also previously served as director of the pediatric orthopedic division of Banner Children’s Hospital in Mesa, Ariz.

 

Dr. Flood has an active interest in scientific research. During his career, he has co-authored several scientific papers and has presented one of his papers at the 2007 annual meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He also has an interest in the field of adult stem cell research and biologic treatment of spinal disorders.

 

Dr. Flood earned his degree at Midwestern University College of Medicine in Chicago where he also completed his orthopedic residency. He has also completed a spine surgery fellowship at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine at Springfield and a scoliosis and pediatric orthopedic surgery fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
