The United States market will continue to have big growth opportunities. Although the United States spinal fusion market experienced a slow-down in 2012, there will likely be opportunities for continued growth and development in the future.
Study examines preoperative depression in posterior cervical fusion patients
The researchers found that after undergoing posterior cervical fusion, patients showed statistically significant Pain Disability Questionnaire, Patient Health Questionnaire and EuroQol-5 Dimensions Questionnaire score improvement when compared with the preoperative health state. At one year after surgery, the average scores were PDQ: 87.8 (vs. 73.6); PHQ-9: 7.7 (vs. 6.6); and EQ-5D: 0.50 (vs. 0.60).
Ronda Stryker sells 14,000 Stryker shares
The shares were sold at $85.37 per share for a total transaction value of nearly $1.2 million. Ms. Stryker now directly owns 174,605 shares of the company, valued at around $14.9 million.
Stryker sells BMP-7 assets to Mariel Therapeutics
Under the terms of the agreement, Mariel will acquire more than 450 issued and pending patents for Stryker's BMP-7 related clinical and research data. The transaction will also include the associated biologic materials.
Medtronic to cut 80 jobs in Minnesota
This news comes in the wake of Medtronic's recent $43 billion acquisition of Covidien, which is expected to close sometime later this year or early next year. The company currently employs 8,000 Minnesotans and pledged to create 1,000 Minnesota jobs after the Covidien acquisition was announced.
Bassett Medical Center names Dr. Mark J. Hornyak chief of neurosurgery
Mark Hornyak, MD, previously served as chief of neurosurgery at Detroit Receiving Hospital and was an assistant professor at Wayne State University.
OrthoGeorgia, Forsyth Street Orthopaedics Merge
The combined practice will be called OrthoGeorgia and will include 26 orthopedic and spine specialists, 20 physician assistants and nurse practitioners, as well as therapists, nurses and technicians.
CMS releases proposed 2015 hospital outpatient payment rates
CMS has proposed updating the OPPS market basket by 2.1 percent in 2015. The proposed rule for 2015 also includes additional comprehensive ambulatory payment classifications.
