The first adult patient to receive the MAGEC rod for scoliosis correction is showing improvement, according to a Daily Mail report.
The MAGEC rod has shown benefit for adolescent patients, but recently Deirdre McDonnell underwent the procedure as a 34-year-old. Ms. McDonnell was diagnosed with scoliosis as a baby and spent her life, up until last June, with a 130 degree "C" shaped spine, according to the report.
She underwent the procedure and is now experiencing benefits once thought only for children. Ms. McDonnell said she no longer experiences pain, can walk further distances and has more confidence in herself. One huge benefit of the MAGEC procedure is not undergoing multiple operations since the rod is straightened externally.
