Myron Rolle, MD, a neurosurgery resident at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston is flying to the Bahamas to aid locals following the destruction caused by Hurricane Dorian, reports USA Today.
Bahamian American Dr. Rolle is a third-year resident and part of a 10-person team from Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Global Health Office of Global Disaster Response.
The team is offering support to Bahamian residents affected by the Category 5 storm such by providing physical exams, assessments and treatments.
Dr. Rolle graduated with his medical degree from Tallahassee-based Florida University College of Medicine in 2017, where he previously played as a safety for the university's football team, the Florida State Seminoles.
He played three seasons for the Seminoles before he was drafted to the Tennessee Titans in the NFL in 2010. Dr. Rolle was inspired to study neurosurgery after witnessing repetitive concussions firsthand during his football career.
