Ehsan Jazini, MD, placed his 100th pedicle screw using augmented reality technology at Reston-based Virginia Spine Institute.
Dr. Jazini used Augmedics' Xvision system for the spinal fusion procedure, according to a March 11 news release. Studies show AR-assisted surgery has improved accuracy and patient outcomes.
For spine procedures, Xvision allows surgeons to visualize a patient's 3D spinal anatomy during surgery. In the last month, AR-assisted spine surgery was introduced at Kankakee, Ill.-based Riverside Healthcare and Augusta, Ga.-based Doctor's Hospital.
