Mark McFarland, DO, performed the first surgery with the Globus Sable expandable lumbar interbody cage in the Virginia peninsula.
The case, a lumbar fusion, was completed Oct. 21 at Newport News, Va.-based Mercy Mary Immaculate Hospital, according to a Dec. 22 news release. The patient was a 57-year-old woman.
The patient went home the day after surgery and is progressing well two months after the procedures, Dr. McFarland said in the release.
The Globus Sable device, from Globus Medical, is an expandable posterior lumbar interbody spacer and has 3D-printed titanium endplates, according to the devicemaker's website.
