Mark Flood, DO, chief surgeon and medical director of Celling Treatment Centers in Austin, Texas, has become one of the first physicians to use the RegenaDISC therapy, which uses stem cell transplantation to treat disc degeneration, according to a practice news release.
The minimally invasive RegenaDISC procedure is used to treat disc degeneration in the lumbar, thoracic and cervical spine. The procedure uses mesenchymal stem cells and is performed as an outpatient procedure.
The surgery relies on the adult stem cells' capacity to produce proteoglycan, which heals and hydrates the damaged disc.
