Dr. Richard Fessler performs TLIF with devices relaunched after acquisition

Spine

Chicago-based Rush University Medical Group's Richard Fessler, MD, PhD, performed a minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion with two implants recently relaunched by device company Spinal Elements.

After acquiring the assets of Benvenue Medical in December, Spinal Elements relaunched the Luna XD expandable interbody and the Orbit system, which comprises discectomy instrumentation designed to facilitate the removal of disc tissue while preparing endplates for fusion.

The Orbit system offers a "safe and more thorough discectomy" and Luna XD "provides a large area for bone grafting and controlled restoration of disc height and lordosis," Dr. Fessler said in a March 3 news release.

Spinal Elements also acquired Benvenue's manufacturing production equipment, which it relocated to its headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif.
