The Leon Wiltse Award is given to one spine surgeon each year and recognizes excellence in leadership and research in spine care.
Dr. Phillips, of Chicago-based Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, has worked for more than 20 years and is a prolific researcher. He’s been a leader in minimally invasive spine surgery and helped develop many widely adopted techniques, according to the release.
He’s a professor and has trained more than 50 spine fellows. At Midwest Orthopaedics, he’s director of the minimally invasive spine surgery section and spine surgery division.
