Oklahoma City-based Oklahoma Children’s Hospital OU Health has earned accreditation from the Spina Bifida Association Clinic Care Partner program.
OU Health is one of only 42 facilities in the nation with the accreditation, according to an April 16 news release sent to Becker’s.
The five-year accreditation goes to facilities that have demonstrated a special commitment to the care of spina bifida patients.
In 2023, OU Health opened the first clinic in the state specializing in multidisciplinary care for adult patients with the disease, aiding them in moving from childhood to adulthood. Spina bifida affects approximately 1,500 infants each year in the U.S.
To earn the accreditation, OU Health underwent evaluation of its multidisciplinary team approach, implementation of evidence-based clinical protocols, care coordination and transition planning, patient education and support services and quality improvement initiatives.
