'Concussion in Sports' reaches 2M students — 7 notes

The online course, "Concussions in Sports," was taken for the 2-millionth time this week through the National Federation of State High School Learning Center, according to TexasHSFootball.com.

Here are seven notes:

 

1. The NFSHS Associations and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention launched the course in May 2010.

 

2. The course reached the one million mark in August 2013.

 

3. The course educates coaches and other individuals about the importance of concussions and how to readily recognize their signs and symptoms.

 

4. The free online course additionally instructs individuals how to respond to a possible concussion and the appropriate steps to aid players in returning safely after recovering.

 

5. The NFHS and its Sports Medicine Advisory Committee worked with the CDC to include new materials in the course such as videos and return-to-play guidelines.

 

6. Users must take pre- and post-tests that give immediate feedback to complete the course.

 

7. Scores increased from 21 percent on the pre-test to 60 percent on the post-test.
