Sportstology is offering a program providing medical training to high school coaches, according to the Daily Republican News.
Here are five notes:
1. Sportstology offers the training every two years in collaboration with Southern Illinois Healthcare, Rehab Unlimited athletic trainers and SIU Healthcare sports medicine physicians and fellows.
2. The coaches will be trained in being prepared for emergencies ranging from severe weather to spine boarding.
3. Coaches must be aware what to do in case of a sports-related injury whether that entails calling an ambulance or working with the ambulance crew to ensure young athletes' safety.
4. Coaches are also being trained in concussion management because many coaches are not aware of the signs of a concussion. Therefore, young athletes do not always seek treatment.
5. The program's aim is to educate coaches to enhance safety for young athletes who are prone to sports-related injuries.
