Mark Cohen, MD, and John Fernandez, MD, hand surgeons at Chicago's Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, have performed surgery on Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah for a torn ulna collateral ligament in his right thumb, according to a practice news release.
Mr. Noah first injured his hand during a Nov. 27 game but continued playing into December, which is unusual for professional athletes with similar injuries, according to the release. The instability of the thumb usually makes it difficult for the player to continue in the game.
