A physician was stabbed earlier this week as he left his medical clinic office in Max Meadows, Va., according to a The Roanoke Times report.

Paul Williams, MD, was stabbed exiting Fort Chiswell Medical Clinic on Wednesday. He is in stable condition now and the Sheriff's Office continues to search for a suspect in the stabbing. Dr. Williams was the target, and the perpetrator allegedly wanted more pain medication, according to the report.

A man with a hoodie over his face confronted Dr. Williams as he left the clinic and asked if he was Dr. Williams. Dr. Williams replied he was, but the clinic was closed. Before stabbing him, the perpetrator reportedly said, "I'm going to teach you (expletive). You need to write more scripts for pain meds."

After being stabbed in the back and right shoulder, Dr. Williams was able to hit the panic alarm on his vehicle and the attacker fled.
