5 most common reasons orthopedic surgeons are sued

Eighty-one percent of male orthopedic surgeons and 67 percent of female orthopedic surgeons report that they have been sued, according to Medscape Malpractice Report 2015: Why Orthopedists Get Sued.

When asked about the nature of lawsuits most commonly filed against them, orthopedic surgeons responded:

 

•    Post-surgical infection or pain
•    Nerve or venal injury
•    Complications from undisclosed or previously undiagnosed conditions
•    Complications resulting from patient non-compliance
•    Angulation, contracture
