Orthopedic surgeon participation in alternate payment models — 2015 vs. 2016: 4 notes

Orthopedic surgeon participation in accountable care organizations is up slightly from 2015, while participation in other payment models is down, according to the Medscape Orthopedist Compensation Report 2016.

Here are four notes:

 

1. Twenty-nine percent of orthopedic surgeons participate in ACOs. This is up from 21 percent who participated in an ACO in 2015.

 

2. Around 6 percent of orthopedic surgeons who are not currently participating in an ACO plan to in 2016. Last year, 8 percent said they would begin participating in an ACO in 2015.

 

3. Three percent of orthopedists practice in cash-only practices, as compared to 4 percent last year.

 

4. Only 1 percent practice in concierge practices versus 3 percent in 2015.
