The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services awarded Kansas Spine & Specialty Hospital the highest possible rating — five stars.
CMS recently began the star rating program and Kansas Spine & Specialty Hospital in Wichita was one of only 102 hospitals in the country to receive five stars.
"We are honored that Kansas Spine is among an elite group of hospitals in the nation receiving the Five-Star Overall Hospital Quality Rating," said CEO Thomas M. Schmitt. "This positions us in the top 2.2 percent nationally, and is a rewarding reflection of the commitment and excellence we provide our patients at Kansas Spine & Specialty Hospital."
There are 3,442 Medicare-certified acute care hospitals in the United States total. In order to achieve the five-star rating, hospitals must meet expectations for seven categories: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, effectiveness of care, timeliness of care and efficient use of medical imaging.
Here are five things to know about Kansas Spine & Specialty Hospital:
1. In addition to the five-star rating, CareChex honored the hospital as a #1 in the Nation for Patient Safety in Spinal Fusion three years in a row.
