Practice Management

According to a survey by Black Book, the upcoming year features IT trends that could disrupt the healthcare industry unlike anything preceding it.

Black Book surveyed hospital CIOs, CFOs and CEOs to compile this list.

Here are some highlights from the report.

1. Technology budgets stagnate — Annual IT budgets have fallen flat, with a repeat expected for the coming year. Seventy-seven percent of hospital IT buyers expect sluggish spending and staffing through the first two quarters of 2017.

2. Electronic Data Warehouses should be priority — Ninety-four percent of hospitals with under 200 beds are not capturing all the needed information for actionable health analytics. To properly implement analytics, hospitals need electronic data warehouses, which are quintessential to the health of a hospital system.

3. The return of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems — Black Book predicts ERPs will return to full implementation as value-based care costing becomes a priority.

4. Providers waiting for large scale cyberattacks instead of preparing — Instead of investing in elements to defend from a large-scale cyberattacks, 95 percent of hospitals with more than 200 beds are bracing for the attacks.
