TV ad hopes to win hearts and minds for Republican healthcare plan: 5 things to know

Practice Management

The President-elect and Republican Congress are intent on repealing the ACA, but it remains unclear how they'll replace the legislation. However, The American Action Network has spent more than $1 million on television ads to promote the Republican House of Representatives' healthcare plans, according to the Washington Post.

Here are five quick notes on how Republican leaders hope to win the hearts and minds of Americans with their new healthcare plan:

1. The first ad ran last night on CNN during a town hall co-housed by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, R-Wis. According to the report, the ad is scheduled for continuous runs during January in targeted markets for districts where 15 House members close to leadership serve.

2. The ad covers the ACA repeal with an "upbeat take on what GOP leaders are planning" with the new administration.

3. While details about the ACA replacement are scarce in the ad, the narrator does mention:

• Health insurance with more choices
• Better care at a lower cost
• Putting "patients and doctors in charge"
• Eliminating regulations

The narrator also addresses preexisting conditions, saying the plan will give people with preexisting conditions a "peace of mind."

4. The add promises to fulfill healthcare needs without disrupting coverage people already have.

5. There are around 20 million Americans who gained insurance coverage under the ACA; it's unclear what would happen to their insurance after repeal, according to the report.
