Five countries led the way in stem cell medication clinical trials administered between 1999 and 2016, according to The National Institute of Food and Drug Safety in South Korea.
Here are the five countries leading the way in stem cell clinical trials:
1. The U.S. ranked first with a total of 314 clinical trials on stem cell medications registered with the NIH from 1999 to 2016.
2. South Korea reportedly registered 46 clinical trials spanning from 1999 to 2016.
3. China placed third, with 29 clinical trials administered since 1999. South Korea and China tied in 2014 by registering five clinical trials each and China overtook South Korea last year before South Korea jumped back to second in 2016.
4. Spain and Israel were fourth and fifth on the list, respectively.
