Orthopedic surgeons divide their clinical time between patient visits and administrative work. Here's the breakdown on how orthopedists spend their clinic hours and patient visits, based on the Medscape Orthopedist Compensation Report 2017.

 

Hours per week seeing patients

 

1. Less than 30: 10 percent
2. Thirty to 45 hours: 49 percent
3. Forty-six to 55 hours: 23 percent
4. Fifty-six to 65 hours: 12 percent
5. More than 65 hours: 4 percent

 

Minutes spent per patient

 

6. Less than 9 minutes: 12 percent
7. Nine to 12 minutes: 36 percent
8. Thirteen to 16 minutes: 30 percent
9. Seventeen to 24 minutes: 19 percent
10. Twenty-five or more minutes: 3 percent

 

Hours spent on administrative work

 

11. Less than five hours: 12 percent
12. Five to nine hours: 28 percent
13. Ten to 19 hours: 43 percent
14. Twenty or more hours: 16 percent
