Main Line Health to purchase ownership in Rothman Institute, NueHealth, Jefferson Health-owned surgical hospital: 5 things to know

Practice Management

The three owners of Bryn Mawr, Pa.-based Physicians Care Surgical Hospital — Philadelphia-based Rothman Institute, NueHealth and Jefferson Health — plan to bring Main Line Health into the fold.

Here are five things to know:

1. Main Line Health will now have ownership stake in the 30,000-square-foot, short stay surgical hospital. The joint venture facility will continue to provide orthopedic, pain management, ophthalmic and gynecologic care, in addition to other specialties.

"This opportunity aligns with our strategic plan to not only provide a superior experience for patients, physicians, employees and partners, but to invest in assets that advance the health and wellness of the communities we serve," said Main Line Health President and CEO Jack Lynch.

2. Main Line Health and Jefferson Health already partner as co-owners of the Delaware Valley Accountable Care Organization, and Rothman Institute has a longstanding partnership with Jefferson Health as the system's orthopedic providers. Rothman physicians also provide orthopedic services at Main Line Health.

3. In June, Rothman plans to open an ambulatory orthopedic surgery center at Bryn Mawr Hospital, complementing its ASC at Riddle Hospital. "Our partnership with both Jefferson and Main Line Health has always been strong and this partnership just further cements our relationship," said Rothman Institute President Alexander Vaccaro, MD, PhD.

4. The Physicians Care Surgical Hospital formed in 2007 and includes five operating rooms, 12 PACU bays and 12 private inpatient rooms. The facility also has imaging and ancillary services for inpatient care.

5. Physicians Care Surgical Hospital has ranked in the top 1 percent of the country for patient excellence. "Specialty facilities like the Physicians Care Surgical Hospital are key sites of service for value-driven care and have been the focus for NueHealth since our inception," said NueHealth CEO Steve Harmon.
