Epidural Steroid Injections Linked to Fragile Bones: Study

Spine

In a recent study published in The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, researchers conducted a study of the correlation between lumbar epidural steroid injections and vertebral body fractures.   The study compared a group of 3,000 patients that received epidural steroid injections and a group of 3,000 patients that did not. The study found that the more injections a patient received the higher the risk of osteoporotic fractures.

The study concluded that steroid injection has a relation to increased bone fragility and should be used with caution.
