Here are 15 orthopedic surgeons making the news:
1. Steven Meier, MD, is now offering pro bono prolotherapy treatments to the underserved population in Los Angeles at his clinic, Meier Orthopedic Sports Medicine. Dr. Meier and his staff will donate time and practice resources every month to administer free prolotherapy services to a select group of patients who meet specific qualifying criteria.
2. Eric Henderson, MD, received a Veterans Administration New England Career Development Award. Dr. Henderson, orthopedic section chief at White River Junction (Vt.) VA, can use the award to assess shared decisionmaking for veterans who have hip and knee osteoarthritis and create programs focusing on shared decision making.
3. Scott Levin, MD, and team members performed the world's first pediatric bilateral hand transplant on an eight-year-old boy. The boy had previously undergone an amputation of his hands and feet in addition to a kidney transplant following a serious infection.
4. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons elected six members for its 2016 Nominating Committee. The committee appointed John R. Tongue, MD, as the chair. The other members include Timothy J. Bray, MD, Lawrence D. Dorr, MD, Thomas Einhorn, MD, John T. Gill, MD, Richard F. Kyle, MD, and Thomas P. Sculco, MD.
5. Craig Rogers, MD, was added to INTEGRIS Orthopedics Mustang's physician team.
6. Sara Graces, MD, joined Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.
7. Sonu Ahluwalia, MD, performed knee surgery on rapper P. Diddy. P. Diddy has been putting off the surgery for the last two years.
8. William A. Lohrer, MD, joined Baystate Maryland Hospital and will be practicing at its Ware and Belchertown locations in Massachusetts.
9. Richard Steadman, MD, received the 2015 Distinguished Alumni Award from Texas A&M.
