Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Ara Deukmedjian of Deuk Spine Institute

Ara Deukmedjian, MD, is the CEO and medical director of Deuk Spine Institute in Melbourne, Fla. He is a neuro-spine surgeon and an assistant professor of neurosurgery at the University of Central Florida's College of Medicine in Orlando. He is also a fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the surgery department chair at Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, Fla.
Dr. Deukmedjian specialties include minimally invasive and endoscopic procedures. He developed a minimally invasive spine surgery procedure known as Deuk Laser Disc Repair. The procedure can be used in the treatment of back and neck pain resulting from herniated discs, bulging discs, spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease.

"Back and neck pain are the most common disorders affecting the spine," said Dr. Deukmedjian in a Becker's Spine Review article. "Spine surgeons play a key role is shaping the care of patients suffering with degenerative and traumatic spinal conditions including chronic back and neck pain. If the correct diagnoses are made as to the cause of the pain and a properly executed treatment is rendered, 90 percent-plus of back and neck pain can be cured."

Dr. Deukmedjian earned his medical degree at University of Southern California School of Medicine in Los Angeles. He completed his residency and a fellowship in neurosurgery at Shands Hospital at University of Florida in Gainesville.
