Paul Nottingham, MD, is the medical director of Bay Area Spine Institute in Walnut Creek, Calif. He is also a part of the John Muir Physician Network and is affiliated with John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek and John Muir Medical Center, Concord (Calif.). He is a member of the North American Spine Society and the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery.
Dr. Nottingham is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. His clinical interests include degenerative conditions, deformity, neoplastic and infectious processes involving the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine.
"Where we are trying to push the envelope a little more is in fusions," said Dr. Nottingham, in a Becker's Spine Review article. "We can do some lumbar fusions in the outpatient setting. Single level transforaminal lumbar interbody fusions have also worked well in the ASC for painful degenerative discs. I think we are going to try to gain better constructs on a single-level lumbar fusion and a better alignment for TLIFs in the outpatient setting."
He earned his medical degree at the University of California Los Angeles School of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Ronald Regan UCLA Medical Center. He has also completed a fellowship at University of Buffalo School of Medicine – The State University of New York.
