Triangle Orthopaedic Associates, located in Durham, N.C., acquired the FONAR Upright Multi-Position MRI and will conduct a study to determine the benefits of using the equipment on patients with sciatica, according to a MD News report.
Previous studies show the FONAR technology can provide accurate images with benefits for diagnosing spondylolisthesis, position-related recurrent disc herniation, evaluating spinal stability and severe kyphosis.
The FONAR system takes images of the patient in various positions: sitting, standing, lying down or inclined. Triangle Orthopaedic Associates will examine the equipment's role in diagnosing and treating patients with sciatica based on the images taken while the patient is in different positions.
