Raj Sureja, MD, an interventional pain management specialist at Orthopaedic & Spine Center in Newport News, Va., performed the first sacroiliac joint fusion in the Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., region with the PainTEQ LinQ SI Joint Stabilization System.
The patient had a history of chronic sacroiliitis and had undergone multiple unsuccessful pain management treatments, according to an April 18 news release from Orthopaedic & Spine Center.
The noninvasive, outpatient procedure allowed for an hourlong postoperative stay, and the patient plans on returning to work in a couple of weeks, the release said.
