Statesville, N.C.-based Iredell Memorial Hospital installed Intuitive Surgical's da Vinci XI robotic surgical system.
Unlike earlier models of the da Vinci, the XI has increased mobility that essentially eliminates the need to move the patient during surgery. The XI also has a magnified vision system in which a small camera sends 3-D high-definition images to a video monitor in the operating room to guide physicians during procedures.
The hospital recently renovated a surgical suite specifically for robotics.
