Aurora Spine Q1 revenue jumps 48%: 5 key notes

Carlsbad, Calif.-based Aurora Spine generated 48 percent higher revenue in 2016 than the previous year.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. Aurora Spine's revenue hit $6.7 million, a 38 percent increase over 2015. Operating expenses also decreased 13 percent last year.

 

2. The U.S. sales force represented 96 percent of revenues last year, and while the company expects to have an ongoing international presence, it will focus efforts primarily on the U.S. market in the coming year.

 

3. Aurora Spine's management team has worked on operational efficiencies that lead to a decrease in the operating expenses and improved sales ratios. The operating expenses dropped from $5.8 million to $5.1 million in 2016.

 

4. Net loss for 2016 was $1.7 million, a drop from the $2.9 million net loss reported in 2015.

 

5. Last December the company added the Screwless procedure to its family of products, featuring the ZIP MIS Fusion system, TiNano interbody cages and COMPASS 4D MIS lateral retractor system.

 

"We remain optimistic about 2017," said President and CEO Trent J. Northcutt. "We are adding new hospitals and surgeons to our customer base and reviewing our product offerings to achieve our long-term growth and profitability objectives."
