William A. Hawkins, CEO of Medtronic, will retire at the end of the current fiscal year, which ends on April 29, 2011, according to a company news release.
The company has initiated an external search for a new CEO. Mr. Hawkins will remain until his successor is appointed. Mr. Hawkins has been CEO of Medtronic since 2007 and chairman of the board since 2008. He also served as senior vice president, president of the company's vascular business and COO at Medtronic.
