The Bridge-Enhanced ACL Restoration implant uses a patient's own blood to repair their ACL. Here are seven updates on the Bear implant that Becker's has reported on since January 20:
1. Vero Orthopaedics in Vero Beach, Fla. added the Bear implant for ACL repair. John Peden, MD, performed the first case January 18 at Vero's The Advanced Center for Surgery.
2. Miach Orthopaedics struck a deal with Veteran's Health Medical Supply to distribute the Bear implant across the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs.
3. Orthopedic surgeons Camille Clinton, MD, and John Manning, MD, at Kirkland, Wash.-based EvergreenHealth are the first in the state to offer the Bear implant.
4. Pascagoula, Miss.-based Singing River Health System is the first in the state to offer the Bear Implant. Philip Myers, DO, performed the state's first Bear implant procedure at Singing River Orthopedics in Gulfport, Miss.
5. Freehold, N.J.-based Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute is the first practice in Monmouth County to debut the BEAR implant. The first procedure was completed by surgeons Michael Greller, MD, and Garret Sobol, MD, who specialize in sports medicine.
6. Miach Orthopaedics secured $40 million in financing to help expand the commercialization of the Bear implant.
7. Robert Cunningham, MD, completed the first surgery in Colorado's Vail Valley with the Bear implant. The procedure was performed at the Vail Valley Surgical Center in Edwards.
