Paul R. Jeffords, MD, is co-medical director of the Resurgens Spine Center in Atlanta and section chief of the department of orthopedic surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital. His area of expertise includes adult spinal disorders, reconstructive spine surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery, endoscopic spine surgery and laser procedures. He also performs artificial disc replacement.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Jeffords is a member of several professional societies. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and AO Spine Society.
Dr. Jeffords earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed his residency at Emory University in Atlanta. His additional training includes a fellowship at Texas Back Institute in Plano. During his fellowship, Dr. Jeffords gained experience with the Synthes ProDisc artificial disc during an FDA trial.
"The advantage of disc-replacement surgery over fusion is that patients can return to normal motion relatively quickly after the operation, with better function and faster recovery," he said in an Atlanta Journal Constitution report. "It's an elegant solution, because it removes the source of the pain while maintaining the spine."
