Workers' Compensation Patients May Experience Less Improvement After Lumbar Fusion

Spine

Patients on workers' compensation who receive lumbar fusion are more disabled than non-workers compensation patients who receive lumbar fusion, according to an article published in Spine.

The study examined 783 patients who underwent posterolateral fusion and analyzed the two-year postoperative outcome measures. Researchers found the patients without workers' compensation had significantly greater improvement of clinical outcomes as compared those receiving workers' compensation. Improvement in back pain was similar between the two groups.
