Dr. Christopher Yeung performs spine surgery on Rockies pitcher Brett Anderson

Christopher Yeung, MD, of Desert Institute for Spine Care performed spine surgery on Colorado Rockies pitcher Brett Anderson, according to a Denver Post report.

Mr. Anderson has a bulging disc, which forced him to skip a start against the Chicago Cubs in early August. An MRI revealed the disc was protruding backward toward the spinal cord.

Dr. Yeung was scheduled to perform the procedure, which is expected to end Mr. Anderson's season. Mr. Anderson will likely undergo a five-month recovery program. Earlier in the season, Mr. Anderson spent three months on the disabled list after breaking his left index finger and had returned to play for less than a month before the back injury occurred.
