Howard Yonas, MD, chairman of the Albuquerque-based University of New Mexico School of Medicine neurosurgery department, is one of the recipients of the 2014 UNM Presidential Awards of Distinction.
Dr. Yonas is a widely regarded neurosurgeon and has authored more than180 articles and edited two books. He was instrumental in the formation of the department of neurosurgery at UNM. Under Dr. Yonas, the UNM Health Sciences Center recently received a $15.1 million grant to test a statewide telemedicine network for stroke and brain injury patients.
