The Carilion Clinic opened a $32 million Institute for Orthopaedics and Neurosciences.
Here are five things to know about the new facility:
1. The 55-square-foot original building was a grocery store. Carilion Clinic spent the last two years renovating the facility, which is now 116,000 square feet.
2. The Institute for Orthopaedics and Neurosciences includes 125 patient exam rooms, nine procedure rooms and capacity for eight diagnostic imaging rooms. Seven of the diagnostic imaging rooms are now operational.
3. Carilion created the Institute to unite orthopedics and neurosciences for better education, research and patient care.
4. Carilion Clinic has been ranked among the top 100 hospitals by Becker’s Hospital Review and its neurologic surgery team is named top performers by US News & World Report.
5. The Joint Commission gave the program it’s Gold Seal of Approval for joint replacements and the department completed its third Joint Commission Disease Specific Certification for total joints.
“The Institute is a testament to the commitment that Carilion has toward our community’s health,” said Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery Joseph Moskal, MD. “But it would be nothing without the smart, talented and compassionate staff that collaborate everyday to offer our patients the best care possible.”
