There is a high total hip arthroplasty dislocation rate among patients with concurrent spinopelvic fusion, according to a study in The Journal of Arthroplasty.
Here are four things to know.
1. The study authors retrospectively reviewed an institutional database of spinal deformity patients and the Humana database to identify patients with concurrent THA and spinopelvic fusion.
2. Among patients with spinopelvic fusion, the prevalence of concurrent THA is 4.6 percent, and among 58,692 primary THA patients, the prevalence of concurrent spinopelvic fusion is 0.1 percent.
3. The researchers found a high THA dislocation rate among THA patients with concurrent spinopelvic fusion at the institution — 20 percent — and within the national Humana national database — 8.3 percent.
4. A letter to the editor in The Journal of Arthroscopy noted that the risk of THA displacement is low if preoperative plans are made with consideration of preoperative pelvic tilt.
