Dr. Murray Blackmore receives 2nd $1.6M NIH grant for spinal cord injury research: 5 highlights

The National Institutes of Health gave Murray Blackmore, PhD, a grant for spinal cord injury and paralysis research, according to BizTimes Milwaukee Business News.

Here are five highlights:

1. The Milwaukee-based Marquette University professor received a $1.6 million grant for this research.

2. This NIH grant represents Dr. Blackmore's second in five years. This second grant continues his first grant's research.

3. He researches the impact of gene therapy on brain cells hurt from spinal cord injury. In this next phase, Dr. Blackmore will leverage stem cells and a newly developed nerve labeling technique.

4. Dr. Blackmore and his team hope to improve the connections between regrown nerves, boosting motor control and function.

5. He serves as an associate professor of biomedical sciences at Marquette.
