The New Jersey Commission on Spinal Cord Injury Research awarded more than $1.5 million in four grants to Kessler Foundation scientists.
Here are five things to know:
1. Nancy Chiaravalloti, PhD, the director of Neuropsychology, Neuroscience and Traumatic Brain Injury Research and project director of the Northern New Jersey TBI Model System, received a three-year grant for $557,782 to study the behavioral and neural aspects of implicit procedural learning performance in SCI patients.
2. Jeanne Zanca, PhD, received a three-year grant for $595,446 for her proposed project to identify neuropathic pain phenotypes in SCI patients. Dr. Zanca is an investigator with the Northern New Jersey Spinal Cord Injury Model System.
3. Silvana L. Costa, PhD, received a two-year grant for $194,306 to study eye-tracker based cognitive assessments to examine cognitive functions in SCI patients.
4. Soha Saleh, PhD, received a two-year grant for $199,998 to investigate the use of neuroimaging for brain-muscle connectivity in incomplete SCI.
5. The Kessler Foundation is a disability nonprofit that aims to improve cognition, mobility and long-term outcomes including employment for people with neurological disabilities caused by disorders of the brain and spinal cord.
