The National Academy of Medicine welcomed David Geffen School of Medicine at UC Los Angeles neurosurgeon Linda Liau, MD, PhD.

1. National Academy of Medicine members are honored for their outstanding professional achievements, commitment to service and contributions to the advancement of medical sciences, healthcare and public health.
2. Dr. Liau is the neurosurgery chair at the David Geffen School. She joins 25 other UCLA medical school faculty who are members of the National Academy of Medicine.
3. For the past 25 years, Dr. Liau has been dedicated to developing and refining treatment strategies for glioblastoma.
4. Dr. Liau has performed more than 2,000 brain tumor surgeries and written more than 160 research articles.
5. Her research in the early 90s led to the creation of one of the first personalized vaccines. She used a patient's own tumor specimen and white blood cells to active the immune system to fight cancer.
