Gender is not associated with surgical outcomes after minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion, according to a study in Clinical Spine Surgery.
Here are three things to know:
1. Study authors measured the patient-reported outcomes of 169 single-level MIS TLIF patients. PROs included Oswestry Disability Index and Visual Analog Scale back and leg pain scores collected preoperatively and at six weeks, 12 weeks and six months postoperatively.
2. Researchers determined no minimum clinically important difference achievement at six months postoperatively between male and female patients.
3. Gender was not associated with differences in length of stay, perioperative complication rates or narcotics consumption.
