Here are four spine and neurosurgeons making the news this week.
Neurosurgeon Michael Cohen, MD, joined Northern Light Neurosurgery and Spine in Bangor, Maine. Dr. Cohen specializes in the treatment of brain aneurysms, complex brain tumors, pituitary tumors and vestibular schwannomas among other neurosurgical conditions.
The most recent efforts of Johnny Delashaw, MD, the former chair of the Seattle-based Swedish Neuroscience Institute, to remove restrictions from his medical license were squashed. Dr. Delashaw appealed the restrictions on his license as well as oversight and a fine, but a judge denied that request, upholding the Washington Medical Commission's restrictions.
Pediatric neurosurgeon Kurtis Auguste, MD, is using virtual reality to plan procedures at University of San Francisco Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland. Dr. Auguste is also using the technology to educate patients and their families about the procedure.
Raymond Gardocki, MD, a spine surgeon specializing in endoscopic spine surgery at Memphis, Tenn.-based Campbell Clinic Orthopaedics, spoke to Becker's about how learning a new technique reinvigorated his practice.
