Here are two female neurosurgeons making the news in the past month:
Gelareh Zadeh, MD, PhD, is set to become the first neurosurgery chair in Canada. On Sept. 1, she will assume the role of chair of neurosurgery at the University of Toronto. Dr. Zadeh will be responsible for neurosurgical training and managing about three dozen neurosurgeons at the university.
Heather Pinckard-Dover, MD, became the first female neurosurgeon to complete the residency program at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences in Little Rock, where she served as co-chief resident for the final two years. Dr. Pinckard-Dover hopes to return to Arkansas after she completes a functional neurosurgery fellowship at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
