The Scoliosis Research Society honored two spine surgeons with 2020 Lifetime Achievement Awards.
The awards honor SRS members for distinguished service to the society and contributions to spinal deformity. This year, SRS honored Jean Dubousset, MD, and Stuart Weinstein, MD, with the award.
Dr. Dubousset is an orthopedic spine surgeon in France. He is known for presenting new research and adding "brilliant commentary" to meetings, according to an SRS press release. He also created the Cotrel-Dubousset instrument system for correcting the spine in three dimensions.
"The early ingenious development was followed by amazing clinical and basic science contributions to our field," said Dennis Wenger, MD. Dr. Dubousset also worked on the team that developed the EOS spinal surgery imaging system.
Dr. Weinstein is a pediatric spine surgeon at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. His work as a surgeon, researcher and educator have made an impact on scoliosis treatment, and he has trained many of the surgeons considered world leaders in spinal deformity.
"His studies on natural history of AIS are landmarks, spanning multiple reports and reaching to 50 year follow up of untreated curves; a feat like this will never be matched," said Paul Sponseller, MD.
