Around 70 percent of practitioners, including physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, reported being required to make a generic substitution for brand-name drugs last year, according to a report from Medscape.
The report also found that more than 60 percent of providers reported pharmacies making switches to generic drugs without notifying them. Providers overwhelmingly said they thought pharmacists should notify them when the switch was made, although 55 percent felt generics were safe and effective as corresponding brand-name products, according to the report.
Around half of the respondents said patient outcomes were impacted after switching to generic drugs.
