Study: Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair Improves Quality of Life

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair can significantly improve patients’ quality of life, according to a study published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine. Researchers examined 309 patients after they received rotator cuff repair to measure quality of life. The SF-36 scores for physical and mental health-related quality of life showed significant improvement one year after surgery. The scores also showed improvement for all clinical variables.

However, older age, female sex, diabetes and low level of sports activity were related to low postoperative physical HRQOL. Female sex was also related to low postoperative mental HRQOL.
