James R. Andrews, MD, has received the 2014 Robert E. Leach Mr. Sports Medicine Award at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine's Annual Meeting in Seattle, according to an Al.com report.
Dr. Andrews is a founding member of Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Ala., as well as Gulf Breeze, Fla.-based Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. He routinely performs surgeries on professional athletes, and it was recently announced that he will appear on a Topps baseball card this year.
Dr. Andrews has been a mentor for more than 250 orthopedic/sports medicine fellows and more than 45 primary care sports medicine fellows. He is a member of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is also a past president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
