Bryan Kelly, MD, will perform arthroscopic hip surgery on Los Angeles Lakers guard Isaiah Thomas at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, the NBA reports.
Here are three things to know.
1. Mr. Thomas was injured last year when he played for the Boston Celtics against the Cleveland Cavaliers, re-aggravating a right femoral-acetabular impingement with labral tear, according to the NBA. Mr. Thomas was dealt to the Cleveland Cavaliers in August 2017, who traded him midseason to the LA Lakers.
2. Dr. Kelly will perform the minimally invasive procedure to "clean" the joint of all inflammatory debris related to last season's injury, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
3. Dr. Kelly is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports injuries and hip preservation. He serves as chief of the HSS' sports medicine service as well as co-director for the Center for Hip Preservation.
